Elise and Harry’s golden hour engagement shoot in Minneapolis was glowy and laugh-filled and silly and sweet. I love this couple. They both have an initial quietness that belies how funny and down-to-clown they are.

Exhibit Columbus | 2025 Design Biennial
Our big summer vacation last year was…Indiana! Columbus, to be exact, for the biannual Exhibit Columbus. This was a hard trip to explain to folks. Basically, Exhibit Columbus is a big public design and placemaking event, set in a city with a long history of amazing public architecture and design.

Maggie and Zach’s wedding day was HOT. But also intimate and sweet and so much fun. These two have been dating since they were high schoolers, so it was fun to see them surrounded by folks who have watched them grow closer every year.

The Danielson twins finally got home for an extended hospital stay, and we celebrated the whole family being together with a perfect fall photoshoot day. Big sister Ellie was such a joy, and it was fun to already see the twins’ unique personalities coming through. We threw leaves, lay in the leaves, walked through the leaved, made a lot of silly faces (mostly Ellie), and laughed for most of this session. Thanks, all, for the perfect October day!

It’s fun to have teenagers as part of a family shoot, especially when they’re the kind of siblings that get along as well as the Wilhlem crew. Posting these glorious fall photos in the darkness of winter brings me back to what a perfect evening it was with this family, strolling through the prairie and the woods, chatting about sports and school. We did a Wednesday-to-Wednesday trip and only ventured out of the city one day, when we took a day trip to Mount Alban. This gave us enough time to fully explore the city, and for Jason to become a regular at his favorite coffee shop.

This was one of those manifested photoshoots. I had been dreaming and scheming about how to work Northfield’s popular soft serve spot — The Blast — into a photoshoot before it closed for the season. Then, out of the blue, I got an email from Renee asking if her and her son could get creative with a little photo session: “Maybe The Blast??” Me: “How were you reading my mind?”

An ongoing gift of my photography work is how it brings old friends back into my orbit. The great bonus is getting to see friends reflected back in their kids, and of course, getting to meet their partners.
