Sophia calls Missouri home, but I had the good fortune to meet up with her during her Minnesota summer, when she comes up to stay with family. She’ll be a senior in the fall, and so we spent a beautiful evening getting senior portraits. She was joined by her aunt Tracey and my good friend Caitlin, and the four of us made a good crew, handling jokes-on-command and turning into a portable changing station when necessary.

Florida Keys Sailing Adventure
We usually don’t have New Year’s Eve plans beyond sitting in front of our fire and staying warm. However, my brother Trevor was turning 40, and he’s a New Year’s Eve baby. His girlfriend planned a 4-day, 3-night sailing trip to the Florida Keys and they graciously invited us along. We couldn’t say no!

Bathroom Renovation
Ever since I was a child, I’ve had an obsession with bathrooms. They are my favorite rooms and no matter where I’ve lived, it’s the room I spend the most time in — I’ll prop up against a bathtub to do homework, to check emails. I take daily baths. Sometimes I’ll even nap in the bathroom. All this oversharing to say: I wanted our bathroom to feel like a space I loved.

Kendall and Rae are one of my favorite Northfield couples. So, this was a dream shoot for me in a lot of ways. I basically tagged along on some of their most beloved rituals: We spent a rainy morning at Martha’s eating flaky pastry. From there, we went back to their place to make coffee, which they share on their porch with their two sweet dogs, Maggie and Cedar. We strolled downtown Northfield, stopping by the Division Street apartments they used to live in before they bought their adorable house.

I’ve done a couple of other sessions with the Vosejpka, and it’s so much fun watching this family grow. Little Reese is no longer a baby; she has her own independent streak and a little mischief in her eyes. Big brother Shep is just a sweetheart. And, I simply adore their parents. We lucked out with this shoot and had one of the most glowing, perfect October evenings, right before all the leaves blew off. Puppy Charlie was along for the ride. I think 3-5 year-old girls are one of my favorite subjects to capture. Melody had such a wild freedom and joy that made this family session so energetic and fun. We spun in circles in Carleton’s Arb, we went to the beach, we collected leaves. Melody’s mom and dad clearly model how to have fun.
